Ideally, children should be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. However, today's family situations often cannot accommodate this idea.

The number of school-age children home alone has risen over the last few years. The main factors are thought to be more working parents and single

parent households.

The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children 9/10 yrs of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible

when alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and

constructively occupied.

Course is designed for children 10 years of age or older, however those that are turning 10 years of age in the calendar year may take  the course.

This change is to avoid cases where two students in the same grade could not take the course together because one had turned 10 before the other.

The course material covers such topics as:

  • Establishing a routine
  • House Key is your responsibility
  • Strangers
  • Telephone
  • Emergencies
  • Basic First Aid
  • Fire Safety
  • Internet Safety

The Student Reference Book is designed to allow the program participants to actively participate in class assignments.

It provides a review of the program material, as well as additional information that will be of value to the students.

The Home Alone portion of this course will qualify a mature  9/10 yr olds to stay home alone for a few hours while waiting for parents to arrive.
* siblings 7-8 yrs old can attend at a reduced rate
